Fireplace Magic And The Christmas Tree Slug

This weekend some friends very kindly brought us lunch, as this is the beginning of Week Three With No Counters And No Kitchen Sink. We got to chat and catch up which was awesome. Eventually we got around to the fireplace which - after the $40 home warranty guy came to look at it and said "nope, I can't fix this" - AW took a look and presto, fixed our fireplace like he's been doing this for the past 20 years. No hesitation. And now we have a working fireplace.

We were feeling so good about this that we decided to go ahead and decorate for Christmas (after doing some drywall work in the kitchen), so on Sunday we went and bought our tree. We got it home and decorated while making our Christmas Music Mix. Just about the time I hung the last ornament on the tree, I noticed The Christmas Tree Slug inching across our floor. I can only assume the little guy came with the tree because I've actually never seen a slug indoors before. I spent my childhood on the high desert and we'd occasionally have millipedes or scorpions climbing up the shower drains, but never slugs.

There was a moment of panic, and then JB took the little guy outside. There was no way I was going to touch it. I can barely stand snails - and they have body armor.

It was a nice weekend to have after a hellish - and I mean HELLISH - week. Happy Holidays!

I'm sorry you had a hellish week and a slug, but I am glad that you have a working fireplace and a tree!!!! Maybe we can come up and see it before you take it down. And bring you dinner, of course. :)

Ah, my friend the slug. Being from Seattle, I have known a lot of slugs in my day. They are a brave breed of slimey thing. My favorite was the banana slug... :-)

KH - sat and did my morning writing next to the fire with a cat curled up on my feet. It was just like the post-card image I had of what a writer's life was like when I was 5. Ah me.

DA - EEEEEEWWWW!

This from a girl who, along with her sister, caught and named snails. What would Slick think?

Snails come ready-to-play-with with those handy-dandy, non-slime covered grabbing-spots (a.k.a. "shells") on 'em. I stand by my EEEEEEWWWWWW!

I gotta say, as much as I loved Slick (despite the incident in the back of the station wagon) I am with jq on the EEEWWW for the slugs. The name isn't even as cool. Slug. Snail.
